Over
the Edge at the Weekend
Mountain biking
tour
Where are we ?
Based
in Kaprun, we’re in the middle of an area with
a great mountain biking pedigree. Kaprun hosted the
UCI Downhill, XC and 4X for several years, Saalbach
Hinterglemm hosts the World Games of Mountain biking
and we’re just 30 minutes away from the Bikepark
at Leogang. To offer you the very best the area has
to offer in just 3 days we’ll be starting our
rides at different locations on one or two days.
How does the weekend
run?
On Thursday you’ll take the bus shuttle
from Salzburg Airport to your chosen Accomodation
in Kaprun. There’s plenty of time to explore,
and later we’ll all meet up to check our
bikes and make sure everyone has everything they
need. Before your evening meal we’ll have
a briefing and answer any queries. After dinner
there’s the option of a Nite Ride to get
you warmed into the weekend.
On Friday & Saturday we’ll aim be ready
to ride by 9.30am and ride until lunch. This is usually
up in the mountains at a tried and tested restaurant
before another couple of hours in the saddle. Then
it’s cake time (an Austrian tradition, you
understand) after which we’ll finish off with
our finale, then head back to Kaprun. After a shower
it’s time for dinner, a few drinks, check out
the day’s photos and post-mortem the ride ‘til
we drop. On Sunday we’ll finish our day around
2pm, head back to Kaprun, where you’ll pack
up and leave for the airport. Be sure to arrange
a late flight home to make the best of today.
The riding – what
to expect
We spend all summer (and yes it is hard work)
checking out the best routes. Sadly what comes down
must first go up and sometimes fireroad climbs are
necessary (in places we can cheat and use cable cars)
but we’ve discovered some fantastic trails and
descents. There are miles of singletrack, technical
descents, rocks, roots, steps, drops, but also meadows
and lakes, all thrown into many of the rides.
Group numbers and ability
levels
We decided early on that smaller numbers are
better fun and safer, so we operate with a minimum
of 3 and a maximum of six people on our weekend tours.
We also decided that our tours should be available
to all levels of rider. This weekend is no exception.
By asking you to complete our pre-tour questionnaire
we can work out if we will need to split the group
so everyone has the best possible time. Of course if
you’re with mates of different abilities and
are used to riding together that’s fine.
