Cycle path tour

The Tauern Radweg consists of 320km of scenic cycle paths, either totally traffic-free or on local back roads. Your base for this tour is the beautiful village of Kaprun, which lies directly on our routes and captures the essence of Austrian hospitality. It also has some of the finest hotels, restaurants and shops in the area. Each day we will cycle from Kaprun, meandering our way in a different direction and spending some time at our destination before returning to the comfort of your chosen hotel. This trip is about the pure enjoyment of the journey. (Radweg = cycle path)

Day 1
Today you’ll take the bus shuttle from Salzburg Airport to your chosen accommodation in Kaprun. There’s plenty of time to explore, and later in the afternoon we’ll all meet up to check our bikes, make sure everyone has everything they need and answer any queries.

Day 2
Kaprun to Krimml Waterfalls (70km)
After you’ve had a sumptuous Austrian breakfast we cycle west towards Krimml, passing through the picturesque villages of Mittersill, Bramberg and Neukirchen where we’ll stop for lunch. On reaching Krimml we’ll dispense with the bikes and visit the dramatic Krimml Waterfalls which, at 380m high and flowing over three levels, are the highest in Europe. Today’s ride is virtually all flat.

Day 3
Kaprun to Lofer (60km)
Today we head north to the village of Lofer, passing the beautiful lake at the nearby town of Zell am See, where we’ll pause for photos. Continuing on through pretty villages we arrive at the Ritzensee lake where we’ll have lunch. The vistas include the stunning Steinberg mountains all the way to Lofer. The highlight of our day is taking the bike in the cable car to the top of the Loferer Alm to gaze out over the view. Here there’s a chance for some relaxing refreshment before enjoying the downhill ride to finish off. Today’s riding is virtually flat with a couple of undulating sections.

Day 4
Steinberg Runde (60km)
We’ll meet today in the village of Leogang and follow one of the most beautiful cycle path routes we’ve ever discovered - the view of the Steinberg mountain as the route meanders around is simply breathtaking. We ride through traditional Austrian villages and past alpine meadows and lakes, stopping for lunch before enjoying a well-earned rest and a drink back at the start. Today’s riding is mostly easy with one or two uphill sections.

Day 5
Return home
Sadly, time to leave Kaprun behind and head back to the Airport for your flight home.
